"I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert, and streams in the wasteland. I give water in the wilderness, streams in the desert, for my chosen people to drink." Isaiah 43

Self help is possible with God’s help.
Come Tuesday, January 9, at 4 P.M.
Anyone who wishes to make life better for themselves (and perhaps everyone
else), or; anyone who believes they have no hangups (we all kid ourselves,
don’t we?), and anyone who just is searching for a more positive lifestyle,
is invited to come to this group which met last winter and now resumes
again!
If this lights up your ‘interest’ or just your ‘curiosity’ button, please
make a note on your Friendslip. The group will again be facilitated by Floyd
Caster, a member of Immanuel Lutheran, Walker, MN.
Note: Epiphany as a season of church year lasts until beginning of Lent.
Special Services Observing the Epiphany of Christ
Special worship services at Community Lutheran at 9 A.M. and 11 A.M.on
Sunday, January 7, will celebrate the Festival of the Epiphany of Christ.
Epiphany, or ‘shining revelation’ recalls the discovery of Jesus as Light
of the World by foreign Wise Men following the star of Bethlehem to the
house of the young Jesus, and finding him more than a year after his birth.
The Festival of Epiphany, traditionally occurs on Christian calendars
January 6, but is often celebrated on the Sunday closest. Next Sunday at
Community Lutheran, youth will enact the story of the Magi in a special
tableau during the reading of the Gospel story from St. Matthew. Youth will
appear at both 9 and 11 A.M.
At the beginning of the 9 A.M. Service, officers of the women’s group will
be installed. They meet for their regular Bible Study on Tuesday. The
Church Council meets Tuesday evening. There is weekly Bible study at 3 P.M.
on Wednesdays.
The stained glass star window is a year around reminder of the gospel
of the epiphany of Christ at Community Lutheran. The window itself is an
unplanned revelation. The late afternoon sun casts the pattern of a blue
butterfly on the ceiling. Christians know that the butterfly is a symbol of
the Resurrection, and that the color blue is symbolic of hope. Those who
also see a cross in the star shape of the window have their vision confirmed
at night, when the exterior floodlight shining through the window casts the
image of the crucified Christ on the sanctuary ceiling.
In addition, the star is repeatedly and sometimes startlingly reflected
in other parts of the building and outside. When one stands at the front
doors looking out at the Eastern mountains, the Epiphany star appears in the
sky above the mountains, a reflection in the glass. These ‘epiphanies’ have
to be seen to be believed. They were unplanned, could not have been
predicted, and are an invitation to faith.
